Article: The Three Days

Passover not Easter and the Importance of the Three Days

Do you remember the first time you asked about the timing of the three days Yeshua (Jesus) spoke about? You were confused because Friday to Sunday is only two days, not three. Actually, if Yeshua (Jesus) died on a Friday afternoon and rose Sunday morning, the math equates to less than two days. When you asked your Pastor about this, he or she came up with some strange math. So what is the truth?

THE EXCERPT BELOW IS FROM BOOK: FAITH THAT IS HIS - PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 2019

The scribes and the Pharisees asked Yeshua for a sign:

Matthew 12:38-40 KJV

38 The certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

If Yeshua’s words are not perfectly fulfilled, then He is not who He claimed himself to be. And Yahweh (God) forbid that anyone would think such a thing!

Now we can’t know for sure if Yeshua was referring to the exact moment He died (breathed His last) or if it was the exact moment His body was laid in the tomb. But we can know for sure the time period. Yeshua died around 3pm (Mat. 27:46). And because we don’t know the exact time of sunset that day, let’s say sunset was around 6pm. To fulfill Yeshua’s Words perfectly, He had to be in the grave for three days and three nights (72 hours).

Yeshua died around 3pm on Wednesday. He was placed in the tomb that evening just prior to sunset around 6pm (that evening began a high Sabbath (John 19:31), which can fall on any day of the week (Mark 15:42). If you look at Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread you will find that the day after Passover, which is the first day of Unleavened Bread, is always a high Sabbath. (Thursday was a high Sabbath and Saturday was the weekly Sabbath.)

Now the math.

Wednesday 3pm-6pm to Thursday 3pm-6pm = 1 day

Thursday 3pm-6pm to Friday 3pm-6pm = 2 days

Friday 3pm-6pm to Saturday 3pm-6pm = 3 days

Yeshua rose sometime after 3pm and prior to sunset (6pm) on the Sabbath (Saturday). Yeshua is Master (Lord) of the Sabbath (Mat. 12:8). It is important to note that Saturday night at sunset, began their first day of the week (by the time they had gone to the tomb, He wasn’t there, He had already risen (Luke 24:1-6) and this first day of the week didn’t end until Sunday night at sunset.

Now, this is where we can apply belief or faith.

Belief says: “I’ve thought this over and I accept this as truth” (or not) (Comes from self).

Faith says: “It doesn’t matter what I think, this is Truth” (Comes from Yahweh).
